Explore this ancient University City and hear the stories of the famous people who have studied here on a private Oxford tour from London.
I will show you around some of its famous colleges with their quiet chapels, courtyards and dining halls, including the inspiration for Hogwarts for Harry Potter fans and Alice in Wonderland!
As well as seeing where famous people studied, I'll tell you about student life today.
You can climb up to see the best view of the “dreaming spires”. We might even have a drink in the pub where Tolkein read his Lord of the Rings and C S Lewis read his Narnia Chronicles!
There are a number of excellent museums, including one to the history of science which includes a blackboard with Einstein's handwritten formula, the fabulous collections of the Ashmolean and a natural history museum housed in a spectacular building.
We can travel by train or bus, or you can hire a car and driver.
The car would give us the option of also visiting the magnificent Blenheim Palace with its opulent rooms and set in a fine landscape designed by "Capability" Brown. This was where Churchill was born and nearby is the quiet graveyard where he is buried. Lunch can be enjoyed in a famous riverside pub often used in films.
Alternatively we could drive to Kelmscote Manor, the lovely 17th century manor house which William Morris bought as his summer home. The interior is full of the wonderful textiles, furniture, paintings and metalwork designed by himself and his friends. A must for all "Arts and Crafts" fans!
